132 Avenue Construction Information

Last updated: August 31, 2026

The City of Edmonton has provided an update on its 132 Avenue Renewal Project and how it will impact traffic and access to our school.

The City of Edmonton has confirmed that 132 Avenue will re-open on Tuesday, September 1, between 90 Street and 86 Street. While this is good news, families should expect significant traffic congestion and delays when accessing our school, and temporary ETS bus stops due to the continued closure of 132 Avenue between 82 Street and 86 Street.

Detailed information is available on the city's 132 Avenue Information Bulletin and Map.

Traffic Impacts

As part of the renewal project, 132 Avenue will have two lanes, one in each direction. To help prepare you for morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up, please refer to the Information Bulletin and Map which shows access points, no parking zones, and other important information.

  • There are three access points to our school: 86 Street, 88 Street, and 90 Street.
  • For the first few days, city flaggers will be stationed at the following locations to help direct traffic:

o   86 Street and 130 Avenue
o   86 Street and 132 Avenue
o   90 Street and 132 Avenue

  • Limited parking for students is available on the north side of 132 Avenue. This area is shown in grey on the map.
  • There will be no parking along 86 Street.
  • Parking is not allowed in the O'Leary Fitness and Leisure Centre parking lot.
  • There will be pick-up and drop-off zones for WIN students and students with limited mobility in front of the main entrance to Archbishop O'Leary Catholic High School.
  • Parent drop-off zones are located northwest of the school along 133 Avenue and 89 Street. This area is shown in black on the map.

ETS Impacts

Students travelling by Edmonton Transit (ETS) will notice some changes to the school special routes. The school special bus stop will be located at 90 Street and 132 Avenue. This will be in place until the end of October, weather dependent, when 132 Avenue is expected to open completely from 90 Street to 82 Street.

Please see the school special maps for more information.

The 132 Avenue Renewal Project and its Impact on Our School

This project is part of a City of Edmonton plan to improve infrastructure along 132 Avenue from Fort Road and 127 Street. Planned upgrades include road resurfacing, sidewalk enhancements, new street lighting, and landscaping. While these improvements will benefit our community in the long term, we understand that they may cause disruptions in the short term, particularly when it comes to commuting to and from school. The City of Edmonton worked with Edmonton Catholic Schools and the community beginning in September 2020 to discuss the project and its potential impacts.

Edmonton Catholic Schools is working with city officials, Edmonton Transit Service, and yellow bus providers to minimize disruptions and ensure a safe environment for everyone.

The 132 Avenue Collector Renewal Project is designed to improve safety, accessibility, and traffic flow, with features like traffic calming measures, improved pedestrian and cycling infrastructure, and updated bus and parking zones.

July 2026 Update

132 Avenue is now fully closed from 90 Street to just west of 82 Street. There is no vehicle access to Archbishop O'Leary Catholic High School from 132 Avenue. This temporary closure will allow crews to continue to work on the reconstruction and paving of the roads, the removal and replacement of public sidewalks, curbs, gutters, and street lighting.

What to Expect in September

The City of Edmonton currently expects 132 Avenue from 90 Street to 86 Street, including the section directly in front of Archbishop O'Leary Catholic High School, to reopen before the start of the 2026-2027 school year. However, 132 Avenue east of 86 Street is expected to remain closed until approximately the end of October 2026.

Access to the school from the intersection of 132 Avenue and 82 Street will remain closed while construction continues east of 86 Street. Families travelling from the east will need to use alternate routes to reach the school. Drivers using 82 Street will need to access the school from 130 Avenue or from 134 Avenue. Access to 132 Avenue west of 86 Street will be available from 97 Street.

The City of Edmonton expects to provide additional traffic and detour information in mid-August. Edmonton Catholic Schools will share updated information with families as it becomes available.
