French as second language - high school

This nine-year course sequence is for students who began their study of French in Grade 4 and who continued this program at the junior level and want to continue to pursue in senior high. Students who complete their French language studies with a 60% or higher at the junior high level will enroll in French 10-9Y. During their three years of French language instruction in high school, students use their knowledge of French to understand and communicate effectively in various situations for various purposes through their knowledge of linguistic elements of the French language and culture nationally and internationally.

Three Year FSL

In the Three-Year FSL Program of Studies, students begin their study of the French language in grade 10.

The goal of the Three-Year FSL program is to enable high school students with no prior learning of French, by the end of grade 12, to understand and express themselves in basic situations. Students will use the cultural and strategic knowledge they have gained to communicate in a simple way provided the other person talks slowly and clearly.

 

Nine Year FSL

In the Nine-Year FSL Program of Studies, students begin their study of the French language in grade 4.


The goal of the Nine-Year FSL program is to enable students, by the end of grade 12, to communicate ideas coherently on a wide range of familiar topics. Students will also use their cultural and strategic knowledge to interact, get what they want and cope skillfully with the problems of daily life.
